Hiking enthusiasts in the Robbinsville, North Carolina, region have a range of options, though few trails in the area are as highly rated as the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest Loop Trail and the Mouse Branch Loop Trail, both located at Nantahala National Forest. The park offers more than 600 miles of trails open to hikers, cyclists, all-terrain vehicles, and horseback riders interested in exploring nearly 531,150 acres of forest.
The forest is divided into three districts: Cheoah in Robbinsville, Nanthala in Franklin and Tusquitee in Murphy. Geographic features of note at Nantahala National Forest include valleys and mountains, some of which reach elevations of 5,800 feet, and the Hiwassee River.
